KAMPALA — Police at Jinja Road are holding three suspects over allegations of publishing fake news and unlawfully obtaining or disclosing personal data through social media platforms.
The suspects were arrested in connection with activities that allegedly occurred in July 2026 and involved the use of social media platforms.
Police identified the suspects as Mayiga Ronald, also known as Munyarwanda wwa Bobi; Kakaire Swaibu, also known as One One UG; and Mugoya Mark.
The three suspects are currently in police custody as investigations into the alleged offences continue.
Police said the suspects will be produced before court to face the law.
The case highlights growing concerns by law enforcement authorities over the use of social media to circulate allegedly false information and to obtain or disclose personal information without lawful authority.
Police have reminded members of the public to use social media platforms responsibly and to respect the privacy and personal data of other individuals.
Authorities further cautioned social media users against engaging in activities that may violate existing laws governing the publication of information and protection of personal data.
