Daily Post about 2 hours 2 mins read

A 72-year-old man, Mutiu Lawal, has been arraigned before an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court in Isabo, for allegedly assaulting his neighbour.

Lawal is facing a two-count charge bordering on assault and conduct likely to cause breach of peace.

The prosecutor, ASP Lawrence Olu-Balogun, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on September 29 at about 1:44 p.m. at No. 40 Ikereku Ayedun, Laderin.

Olu-Balogun said the complainant, Mrs Fatimoh Babatunde, had approached Lawal over a broken window attached to her daughter’s room, which was allegedly damaged by the defendant.

He alleged that Lawal, upon hearing the allegation, resorted to violence and attacked the complainant with an iron chair, causing grievous bodily harm and a shoulder injury.

According to the prosecutor, the complainant raised an alarm which attracted neighbours and led to Lawal’s arrest.

The prosecutor said the offences contravene Sections 252, 351 and 355 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State, 2006.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs A.K Araba, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum.

She ordered that the surety must be a registered bondsman with the Ogun State Judiciary.

Araba ordered that Lawal be remanded at the Oba Correctional Facility pending the perfection of his bail conditions and adjourned the case till October 12 for hearing.
