Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno says his administration has saved more than ₦200 billion through prudent project management and strict adherence to due process, with the funds redirected to critical development projects across the state.
Governor Eno disclosed this during the July State Projects Delivery Meeting held at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Uyo, where he reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and timely project delivery.
He said the monthly meeting was designed to keep the public informed on how government resources are being deployed, noting that the state’s in-house quantity surveying mechanism has significantly reduced project costs while ensuring value for money.
Concerning the spread of false information about government projects, he stated that members of the media, civil society organisations and other stakeholders were invited to witness the project review process firsthand in the interest of transparency.
Governor Eno highlighted key milestones recorded by his administration, including the unveiling of the 350-bed Ibom International Hospital, the commencement of scheduled Ibom Air flights between Uyo and Accra, ongoing aviation infrastructure upgrades, efforts to actualise the Ibom Deep Seaport, and the rehabilitation of maritime infrastructure in Oron.
On infrastructure, he said the administration is executing 1,305 kilometres of roads and 40 bridges across the state, while providing updates on projects expected to be commissioned later in the year, including the Ibom International Hospital, ARISE Palm Resort, the new international terminal at Victor Attah International Airport and the Aviation Village.
The meeting also received a presentation on the state’s electricity reforms, with Governor Eno reiterating his administration’s target of delivering stable and reliable electricity to residents within the next 18 months through institutional reforms and private sector participation.
Governor Eno directed security agencies, local government chairmen and community leaders to protect public infrastructure, warning that traditional rulers who fail to curb the theft of government property around airport project sites risk losing their certificates of recognition.
