Alleged defamation: Sowore crossed line – DSS lawyer

Daily Post about 2 hours 1 mins read

A counsel to the Department of State Services, DSS, Fidelis Adedipe, has faulted the action of human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, in his alleged defamatory statement against President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television’s ‘Prime Time’ on Thursday, Adedipe said there is a thin line between freedom of expression and committing an offence, noting that Sowore crossed that line

Recall that the Federal High Court in Abuja recently granted bail to Sowore in the sum of N200 million.

He is being prosecuted by the DSS over allegations that he made false claims against President Tinubu by describing him as “a criminal” in posts published on his X and Facebook accounts.

Reacting, the DSS lawyer said, “Mr Sowore actually crossed the line. He tweeted, calling the president a criminal, and that is a joke taken a bit too far.

“You may not like the occupant of the office of the president, but the office ought to be respected. He was asked to take down the tweet, which he refused.”
