Atiku sympathises with Lagos residents over devastating floods

Daily Post about 2 hours 2 mins read

Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has expressed sympathy with residents of Lagos State affected by severe flooding caused by heavy rainfall over the weekend.

In a statement shared on his official Facebook page on Tuesday, Atiku offered his condolences to families, motorists, commuters, and business owners whose lives were disrupted by the floods.

He said: “I extend my heartfelt sympathy to the people of Lagos who have been affected by the ongoing flooding. My thoughts are with the families, motorists, commuters, business owners and everyone whose lives and livelihoods were disrupted by this unfortunate event.”

The former vice president urged residents to support one another during this difficult period.

“At moments like this, we are reminded of the strength of our shared humanity and the importance of standing together in support of one another. I pray for the safety of all, for a swift return to normalcy,” he added.

His message comes as many Lagos residents continue to complain about recurring flooding after heavy rainfall that began on Sunday.

The flooding submerged major roads and communities across the state, leaving many people stranded and disrupting transport and other daily activities.

Affected areas include Gbagada, Iyana Ipaja, Ikorodu Road, Ikeja, Maryland, Mushin, Ogudu, Lekki, Oshodi, Agege, Alimosho, and Obalende. Many commuters were forced to walk long distances after floodwaters halted commercial transport services.

The floods also disrupted air travel, leading to the temporary closure of a terminal at Murtala Muhammed International Airport.
