Bago Launches 500-Unit Housing Estate In Niger State

 

Niger State Governor, Umaru Bago, has unveiled the residential layout plan for a proposed 500-unit housing estate in Kontagora, as part of efforts to expand urban infrastructure and provide affordable housing for residents.

Speaking during the inauguration, Governor Bago disclosed that the 40-hectare parcel of land earmarked for the project belongs to the Niger State Government and was previously reserved for the Radio Niger Corporation.

He noted that the land had been encroached upon over the years, with some criminal elements allegedly occupying the area, necessitating the government’s decision to reclaim and develop it.

The governor explained that the state government would provide the necessary site-and-services infrastructure to prepare the estate for development before allocating plots to prospective buyers.

According to him, the housing estate will be named after the Sarkin Sudan of Kontagora, Muhammad Barau Mu’azu II, in recognition of his contributions to the development of the emirate.

Governor Bago expressed confidence that the project would open up Kontagora for further development, stimulate economic activities, and provide more residents with the opportunity to own decent homes.

He further disclosed that the Niger State Government would collaborate with the Renewed Hope Housing Project to ensure the successful implementation of the housing scheme.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Lands and Survey, Bello Agwara, said the proposed layout covers about 305 plots of different sizes, including 100-by-50-foot and 100-by-30-foot plots, as well as three commercial plots.

He added that the estate would also feature essential public facilities, including a neighbourhood centre, shopping mall, children’s playground, clinic, and other supporting infrastructure.

Agwara said the layout was designed in line with the New Niger Agenda of the Bago administration, aimed at promoting sustainable urban development and improving access to quality housing across the state.
