The Adamawa State Police Command says it has secured the conviction of three persons for housebreaking, theft and receiving stolen property.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya-Nguroje, disclosed this in a statement in Yola.
Yahaya-Nguroje said the conviction followed a complaint by Ahmad Aliyu of Rumde Ward, Jimeta, in Yola North Local Government Area.
According to him, Aliyu reported that John Ishaya broke into his residence at about 3 a.m. and stole a laptop, power bank and two pairs of jumpers valued at N300,000.
The police spokesman said investigation revealed that Muhammadu Hassan of Yelwa Ward, Jimeta, assisted in concealing and selling the stolen items to Abdul’Aziz Hassan of Rumde Ward.
Yahaya-Nguroje said the three defendants were arraigned before Chief Magistrate Court 3, Yola, where they pleaded guilty to the charges.
He said the court sentenced Ishaya to three years’ imprisonment for housebreaking and seven years for theft in a dwelling house, with both sentences to run concurrently.
“Muhammadu Hassan and Abdul’Aziz Hassan were each sentenced to seven years imprisonment without option of fine for concealment and receiving stolen property, respectively,” he said.
The PPRO quoted the Commissioner of Police, CP Kabir Umar-Hassan, as commending the judiciary for the conviction.
The commissioner also urged residents to report suspicious activities to the police to assist efforts to prevent crime in the state. (NAN)
