Coventry City Confirm Signing Of Taiwo Awoniyi

InformationNG about 3 hours 2 mins read

Coventry City have announced the signing of Taiwo Awoniyi from Nottingham Forest.

The newly promoted English Premier League (EPL) club confirmed the acquisition in a statement on Monday.

Awoniyi signed for Coventry for a reported fee of around £17 million and will join Frank Onyeka, who joined the Sky Blues permanently in June after spending last season on loan with them.

Awoniyi’s deal was announced a day after Nottingham Forest gave the striker an emotional farewell at the City Ground during their last pre-season game.

He was given a guard of honour by the club’s players and staff, then lifted into the air as fans joined in with raucous cheers. Ola Aina, Awoniyi’s compatriot in the Super Eagles and Forest teammate, was at the centre of the celebration.

Awoniyi joins Frank Lampard’s available roster ahead of Coventry City’s opening game of the EPL season against Arsenal on Friday. The club returns to the top flight for the first time in 25 years.

The Kwara-born striker said he’s eager to impress his new employers and the fans at the CBS Arena.

“I’m very happy to complete my move to Coventry City,” he said.

“I am very excited about this season, and I can’t wait to get started.

“I’m really looking forward to working with my new teammates. I have seen how amazing they have been last season; coming up from the Championship, they were incredible, and now I am just excited to join them and get started for the new season.”
