The Ebonyi State Government under Governor Francis Nwifuru has completed over 627 kilometres of roads across the state, expanding transport networks in both urban and rural areas.
The State Commissioner for Works, Engr. Stanley Mbam, disclosed on Monday while briefing journalists following an independent facility tour conducted by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ebonyi State Council, as part of activities commemorating the 2026 Press Week.
Mbam emphasised that the governor’s delivery should be evaluated against the “People’s Charter of Needs” manifesto, the blueprint presented to the electorate before his election.
He noted that the administration has delivered extensive progress across urban renewal, rural access roads, and bridge infrastructure.
“From 2023, making it three years and some months, His Excellency has done remarkably well based on the People’s Charter of Needs he came on board with,” Mbam said.
Addressing spatial equity in development, the commissioner explained that project execution extends beyond the state capital into rural communities to boost economic connectivity.
“We have not concentrated development in Abakaliki alone. Road construction and bridge projects have been extended to rural communities to improve connectivity,” he added.
“About 627 kilometres of roads have been completed, while many others are actively ongoing.”
Mbam also addressed the engineering timeline for the signature Vanco Flyover and Underground Tunnel, describing it as a complex design incorporating a double-deck flyover, a subterranean tunnel, ancillary access roads, and a dedicated bypass route.
“I have full confidence in the job schedules of the Ministry of Works, our resident engineers, and the contractors on site,” Mbam stated.
“Whether His Excellency chooses to commission it to flag off his second tenure or prior to that, I am certain the project will be fully completed between now and February.”
Highlighting local technical expertise, Mbam described the Vanco structure as unprecedented in the Southeast region and praised the reliance on indigenous engineering capacity.
“This project is one of a kind in the Southeast and is being executed entirely by local engineers,” he noted.
“It demonstrates the capacity of local engineering talent to deliver complex, world-class infrastructure.”
Concluding his remarks, the commissioner urged media practitioners to maintain factual accuracy by prioritizing direct field observations over online speculation.
