Samsung next major software evolution is officially on the horizon. Built on top of Google’s freshly minted Android 17 framework, One UI 9 is gearing up for a massive global rollout to phones.
The software officially kicked off its public beta program on May 13, 2026, starting with the flagship Galaxy S26 series.
While Samsung has kept tight-lipped about an official launch date, industry reports from Korean outlets Seoul Economic Daily and Korea Economic TV strongly point toward a stable release debuting around July 22, 2026.
The launch is heavily tipped to coincide with a rumored Galaxy Unpacked event in London, where Samsung is expected to unveil its next-generation foldables, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8.
Whether you own a top-tier flagship or a budget-friendly A-series device, here is a complete breakdown of what One UI 9 brings, when it will drop, and every device expected to receive the upgrade.
What is One UI 9 and What Features Are New?
One UI 9 marks the ninth major iteration of Samsung’s custom Android skin. While the previous One UI 8.5 drastically overhauled the ecosystem’s visual layout with “Ambient Design,” One UI 9 is structurally a refinement generation. Rather than starting from scratch, it locks down that visual foundation, focusing heavily on expanded Galaxy AI tools, functional adjustments, and deep optimization.
During its initial beta showcase, Samsung officially announced several key quality-of-life updates. The Quick Panel has been redesigned so that brightness, volume, and the media player are independently adjustable with granular size options. Security gets a massive boost with a new High-Risk App Blocking system-level shield that warns you when a suspicious app is detected, blocks it from executing, and prompts you to delete it. Additionally, the native Contacts app now integrates directly with Creative Studio for highly personalized digital business cards, and a new Text Spotlight tool enlarges selected text in a floating window.
Tech publications like SamMobile and 9to5Google have unmasked further details inside early tester builds, including thicker sliders, an animated colorful waveform widget for the lock-screen media player, and a standalone Parental Controls settings menu. Because One UI 9 sits on top of Android 17, Galaxy users will also inherit fundamental platform upgrades engineered by Google. These include Floating App Bubbles (which form a dedicated bubble bar on foldables and tablets), a granular contact picker that lets you approve access to individual names rather than your whole list, enhanced system-level security architecture, and optimized satellite connectivity.
The Expected Rollout Timeline
Historically, Samsung deploys its stable software updates in waves based on device tier and regional configuration. Note that carrier-locked devices and regions outside the initial wave (such as Africa and parts of Asia) typically see updates land several weeks after unlocked models in the US, Europe, and South Korea. Based on Samsung’s historical rollout patterns, the software is expected to drop in the following order:
- Around July 22, 2026: Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8 (Launch devices)
- Late July to August 2026: Galaxy S26 series
- August 2026: Galaxy S25 series
- August to September 2026: Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7, Z Fold 6, and Z Flip 6
- Late 2026: Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy Z Fold 5, and Galaxy Z Flip 5
- Late 2026 into Early 2027: Galaxy A-series, M-series, F-series, and Galaxy Tab tablet series
Full Device Eligibility List
Samsung has not yet published its final, definitive eligibility list. The rosters below are compiled based on early Android 17 firmware indicators and Samsung’s official software commitments, which guarantee 4 to 7 years of major OS upgrades depending on the model.
Galaxy S Series
- Galaxy S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra
- Galaxy S25, S25+, S25 Ultra, S25 Edge, and S25 FE
- Galaxy S24, S24+, S24 Ultra, and S24 FE
- Galaxy S23, S23+, S23 Ultra, and S23 FE
The Galaxy S23 series represents the oldest flagship bracket eligible for the update, marking its fourth and final major OS milestone. The Galaxy S22 generation and the S21 FE are officially left behind. Because Samsung’s elite 7-year update policy didn’t begin until the launch of the Galaxy S24 in January 2024, these older devices remain capped under the legacy 4-year lifecycle window, making One UI 8.5 their final destination.
Galaxy Z Series (Foldables)
- Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8 (Will ship with One UI 9 pre-installed)
- Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide (Expected to ship with One UI 9)
- Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7, and Z Flip 7 FE
- Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6
- Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5
- Galaxy Z TriFold and Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition
The Galaxy Z Fold 4, Z Flip 4, and all older foldables will not receive One UI 9, hitting the exact same support cutoff as the older S-series devices.
Galaxy A, M, and F Series
Samsung famously extended its mid-range update commitment to six full years starting with the Galaxy A16 family. Generally, most mid-tier phones launched in 2024 or later are expected to make the cut:
- Galaxy A Lineup: Galaxy A57 5G, A56 5G, A55 5G, A37 5G, A36 5G, A35 5G, A26 5G, A25 5G, A24, A17 (5G/4G), A16 (5G/4G), A15 (5G/4G), A07 (5G/4G), and A06 5G. (Note: Outlets conflict over the fate of the older Galaxy A54, A34, and the base A06 5G; treat these three as unconfirmed possibilities).
- Galaxy M Lineup: M56 5G, M55 5G, M55s 5G, M54 5G, M36 5G, M34 5G, M17 5G, M17e 5G, M16 5G, M15 5G, M07, and M06 5G.
- Galaxy F Lineup: F56 5G, F55 5G, F54 5G, F36 5G, F34 5G, F70e 5G, F17 5G, F16 5G, F15 5G, F07 5G, and F06 5G.
Galaxy Tab Series
- Galaxy Tab S11 and Tab S11 Ultra
- Galaxy Tab S10+, S10 Ultra, S10 FE, S10 FE+, and S10 Lite
- Galaxy Tab S9, S9+, S9 Ultra, S9 FE, and S9 FE+ (Final eligible upgrade for the S9 lineup)
- Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2024 Edition only)
- Galaxy Tab A11 and A11+
