ADJUMANI — The nation today bid farewell to one of its greatest patriots— Gen. (Rtd) Hon. Moses Ali, a statesman who devoted his whole life to serving Uganda with courage, wisdom and unwavering commitment.
Speaking at the burial in Adjumani, the Minister for the Presidency, Hon. Babirye Milly Babalanda, who also chaired the National Organising Committee, thanked all Ugandans who contributed to giving the late a dignified and befitting send-off.
“Your dedication has demonstrated the respect and affection that our nation had for its extraordinary son,” she said.
Minister Babalanda conveyed deepest appreciation to His Excellency President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni “for according his longtime friend, brother, and comrade an official burial, and for standing with the family throughout this difficult time.
She equally thanked the Parliament of Uganda for the special tribute sitting held in his honour and for supporting the burial arrangements.
She expressed appreciation to Gen. Moses Ali’s fellow Ministers and Members of Parliament for walking a journey with him until his final days and for honouring him with heartfelt tributes that have reminded the nation of his remarkable legacy of patriotism, humility and selfless service.
Minister Babalanda extended gratitude to the people of West Nile for nurturing and sharing with Uganda such an exceptional leader. “The overwhelming love you have shown your ‘Lion Son’ in life and in death is a testimony to the lasting bond he forged with his people,” she said.
She also joined the entire nation and the Muslim community, under the leadership of the Mufti of Uganda, in mourning the loss of “a peacemaker, statesman and a tireless champion of development.”
As Gen. Moses Ali was laid to rest, Minister Babalanda urged Ugandans to emulate the values he lived for.
“While great leaders depart, the values they lived for endure. The greatest tribute we can pay him is to preserve our unity, work hard for our country and serve Uganda with the same dedication that defined his remarkable life,” she said.
“May the Almighty Allah grant our departed elder eternal peace, comfort his family, and bless Uganda.”
The official burial was held at the late’s ancestral home in Abiri Chako Village, Adjumani District, and was attended by the Vice President, H.E. Jessica Alupo, government officials, MPs, religious leaders, and thousands of mourners from across West Nile and beyond.
