I’m not interfering with judiciary by providing infrastructure – Tinubu

Daily Post about 2 hours 3 mins read

President Bola Tinubu on Monday assured that his administration’s provision of infrastructure for the judiciary is not an interference in the responsibilities of the third arm of government.

Tinubu explained that his administration is providing infrastructure to enable the judiciary carry out its duties in a befitting environment.

Represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, George Akume, Tinubu spoke at the commissioning of the annex office of the Body of Benchers in Abuja.

The project is part of those earmarked to celebrate Tinubu’s third year anniversary in office.

He said: “It’s with profound honour and a great sense of national purpose that I stand before you today to officially commission the state of the art office annex of the Body of Benchers in our nation’s capital.

“today’s ceremony is not merely a celebration of a beautiful edifice crafted with architectural excellence, it’s a resounding affirmation of our administration’s commitment to the rule of law, the independence of our institution, and the dignity of the Nigerian legal profession.

“When we took that oath of office, we promised Nigerians renewed hope and we made it clear that democracy cannot thrive in a vacuum, it required a strong resilient and well equipped institution to anchor it.

“The body of Benchers as a gatekeeper to the legal profession charged with the critical responsibility of admitting eligible candidates to the bar and maintaining the highest standards of discipline stands at the very highest of this institutional framework.

“It’s only fitting that an institution of such monumental national significance, housed in an edifice that reflects its prestige, responsibility, and dignity.

“Let me be absolutely clear that the provision of infrastructure for the legal community and the judiciary is not an interference in the independence of another arm of government, rather it’s a constitutional and a collaborative duty to ensure that those who interprete and uphold our laws are provided with an environment that fosters operational decency and excellence.

“In the same vein, the commitment to supporting the legal ego-system remains holistic and not stopping this magnificent annex.”

The president also announced the commencement of 300-capacity hotels for the Nigerian Law school in Bwari Area of Abuja.

“Through the FCT Administration, we have approved and commenced construction of two 300 capacity hostels for the Nigerian Law school in Bwari to improve the welfare of our future lawyers.

“We have also completed the critical access roads linking the Body of Benchers secretariat to the Nile university while a new Fire service station dedicated to safeguarding the institution within this area is also under construction,” he added.
