Katsina LG Council Commissions Maternity Clinic As Radda Hails Chairman’s Healthcare Drive

 

 

The Katsina Local Government Council has commissioned the newly constructed Late Hajiya Safara’u Radda Maternity and Children’s Health Clinic in Gidan Dawa, marking another milestone in efforts to improve access to quality healthcare services across the state.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony on Wednesday, the Chairman of the Katsina Local Government Council, Isah Miqdad, said the project was initiated after the former health facility, a small and unsafe dispensary, deteriorated to an unacceptable condition that could no longer guarantee quality healthcare for residents.

Miqdad explained that the council embarked on an intensive three-week rehabilitation and reconstruction project to transform the facility into a modern maternal and child healthcare centre capable of meeting the growing health needs of the community.

According to the chairman, the upgraded facility is designed to provide safer, more comprehensive and dignified healthcare services, particularly for expectant mothers and children, while also serving the wider community.

“The centre will complement the services of the Turai Yar’adua Maternity Hospital by providing maternal and child healthcare, general medical services for men and women, as well as other essential health services,” he said.

In his remarks, the Katsina State Commissioner for Health, Musa Funtua, described the project as a significant investment in the health sector, commending the council chairman for his commitment to improving healthcare delivery across the local government.

“This is our day because health is wealth. The chairman is on the right track and has continued to record remarkable achievements in Katsina Local Government,” the commissioner stated.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Katsina State, Bishir Saulawa, attributed the declining pressure on health facilities within the local government to the massive investments being made by both the state and local governments.

Saulawa noted that Katsina Local Government’s population has grown to over 1.1 million people, compared to about 280,000 recorded nearly seventeen years ago, underscoring the need for continuous expansion of healthcare infrastructure.

 

In his remarks at the event, Governor Dikko Radda, who also addressed the gathering, commended the Katsina Local Government Chairman for executing what he described as a people-oriented project and urged him to sustain the pace of developmental initiatives across the council.

The governor described Katsina Local Government as a pace-setter among the state’s 34 local government areas, saying its developmental strides should serve as a model for others.

Radda, visibly emotional, said the commissioning held special significance because the facility was named after his late mother.

“This day really touches my heart because the facility is named after my late mother to immortalise her,” the governor said.

The commissioning attracted government officials, political leaders, political thugs, traditional rulers, health professionals and members of the community, who described the project as a major boost to maternal and child healthcare services in Gidan Dawa and neighbouring communities.
