Kyenjojo Intensifies Preparations for FY 2025/26 National Local Government Performance Assessment

KYENJOJO: Kyenjojo District has commenced preparations for the FY 2025/26 Local Government Performance Assessment with a mock assessment entry meeting aimed at strengthening readiness among departments, Lower Local Governments, and district leadership ahead of the national exercise.

The meeting brought together Heads of Departments, Sub-county Chiefs, Town Clerks, Accountants, and political leaders to assess preparedness and ensure that all required documentation, evidence, and performance records are in place ahead of the National Local Government Performance Assessment conducted by the Ministry of Local Government in collaboration with the Office of the Prime Minister.

Addressing participants, Deputy Chief Administrative Officer Mr. Vincent Kyaligonza urged all departments and Lower Local Governments to actively participate in the mock assessment process and provide accurate information supported by proper documentation.

“This exercise is about demonstrating compliance, transparency, and our collective commitment to delivering quality public services. Every officer should provide accurate information and the necessary evidence,” Mr. Kyaligonza said.

Presenting the district’s performance report on behalf of the District Planner, Ms. Immaculate Atuhurra, Senior Treasurer Mr. Jordan Alicwamu highlighted Kyenjojo’s remarkable improvement in the FY 2024/25 national assessment, where the district rose from 151st to 90th position out of 176 Local Governments, gaining 61 places.

He attributed the improvement to strong performance in key areas, particularly the Production sector and the Micro-scale Irrigation Programme.

According to the report, the Production sector registered the highest improvement, rising from 40 percent to 90 percent. Other sectors also recorded significant progress, with Water and Sanitation improving from 49 percent to 70 percent, Health from 50 percent to 71 percent, Education from 41 percent to 68 percent, and Infrastructure from 36 percent to 57 percent. The Micro-scale Irrigation Programme maintained a strong performance score of 84 percent.

Despite the progress made, district officials emphasized the need for continued efforts to close existing gaps ahead of the FY 2025/26 assessment. Key focus areas include improving documentation, strengthening timely reporting, enhancing supervision, conducting regular internal assessments, and promoting staff commitment across all Lower Local Governments.

District Chairperson Hon. Gilbert Rubaihayo commended the technical team for the improved ranking and reaffirmed the commitment of district leadership towards promoting accountability, efficiency, and quality service delivery.

“Performance assessments enable us to measure our progress, identify areas for improvement, and ensure better services for our people. We are fully committed to this process, especially under the new ‘Kisanja No More Sleep’ agenda,” Hon. Rubaihayo said.

He challenged both technical and political leaders to work towards achieving 100 percent performance in the FY 2025/26 assessment, noting that success will depend on early preparation, active participation of Local Council leaders, and continuous collaboration among stakeholders.

The mock assessment exercise is expected to help Kyenjojo District identify performance gaps, strengthen institutional readiness, and improve governance, accountability, and service delivery across all Lower Local Governments ahead of the national evaluation.
