The Lagos State Government has rescued 396 beggars across the metropolis during a coordinated environmental sanitation enforcement operation aimed at promoting a cleaner, safer and more orderly environment.

The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this in a statement posted on his official X handle on Tuesday.

According to Wahab, the operation was carried out by operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps as part of the government’s sustained efforts to improve environmental sanitation and curb illegal activities.

He said those rescued would be profiled before receiving appropriate assistance where necessary.

The commissioner added that they would subsequently be handed over to the appropriate authorities for safe return to their respective states.

“The exercise underscores the state’s commitment to maintaining public order, protecting the environment and improving safety,” Wahab said.

He added that the government would sustain enforcement operations to ensure environmental cleanliness and enhance the quality of life of residents.
