Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has admitted he is “very, very sad” after the club decided not to offer him a new contract.
According to the BBC, the Argentina international was informed during the summer that Liverpool were not in a position to extend his deal, despite teammates Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch signing new contracts.
“I received the news that the club was not in a position to offer me a new contract which, of course, makes me very, very sad,” Mac Allister said.
The 27-year-old, who joined Liverpool from Brighton in 2023 and still has two years left on his current deal, said he believes his commitment to the club is clear.
“Everyone can see that I give my 100% for this football club every single day in training and games,” he said.
Mac Allister said he was happy for Szoboszlai and Gravenberch but admitted their new deals had also highlighted his own disappointment.
“That makes me very happy because they deserve it. At the same time it makes me a little bit sad that I didn’t get mine,” he said.
Despite the contract situation, the World Cup winner insisted Liverpool fans had no reason to doubt his commitment.
“The fans don’t need to worry because I will give my 100% until the last day I am here,” Mac Allister added.
He also stressed his affection for the club, saying: “I love this club. I love the fans. I know very well this is an amazing club and this city has something very special.”
New Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola, who spoke alongside Mac Allister ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid, said the midfielder remains an important player.
“The important thing is he wants to be here,” Iraola said, adding that “there is still a lot of time to talk about those contract situations.”
