Meshi Emerges Chairman Of NMA Nasarawa, Pledges Improved Doctors’ Welfare

 

Meshi Emmanuel has been elected Chairman of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Nasarawa State Branch, following the association’s 2026–2028 State Officers Committee election.

He secured 229 votes.

The election, conducted across the association’s three zones of Lafia, Akwanga, and Keffi, was declared peaceful, free and fair by the Electoral Committee (ELCOM).

Announcing the results on Friday, Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Bulus Peter Umaru, commended members for their orderly conduct and described the exercise as a demonstration of unity among medical practitioners in the state.

He urged the newly elected leadership to work collaboratively with all stakeholders to advance the objectives of the association.

“The election was free and fair, and it was conducted without any major challenge. I appreciate the contestants for showing maturity and their supporters for maintaining peace throughout the process,” he said.

Bulus charged the incoming executive to prioritise the welfare of doctors, strengthen unity among members and support efficient healthcare delivery in the state.

According to him, the association remains committed to promoting members’ welfare, fostering harmonious relationships among doctors, contributing to quality healthcare delivery, educating the public on medical and scientific issues, and ensuring continuous professional development.

He also advised the new chairman to carry along his fellow contestants, noting that their experience and ideas would contribute significantly to the growth of the association.

Speaking during the handing-over ceremony at the NMA Secretariat in Lafia, Meshi expressed gratitude to members for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to justify the mandate.

He said his administration would focus on improving the welfare of doctors, strengthening unity within the association and upgrading the NMA secretariat in Lafia.

The new chairman also appreciated Governor Abdullahi Sule for efforts aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery and providing a conducive environment for medical practitioners in the state.

He expressed the association’s readiness to partner with the state government to improve healthcare services and secure better welfare packages for doctors.

Acknowledging the challenges ahead, Meshi said his administration would rely on the support and cooperation of members to achieve its objectives.

“Our primary responsibility is the welfare of our members, and we will pursue it as our top priority,” he said.

He further pledged to renovate the NMA secretariat to give it a befitting outlook while promoting unity and inclusiveness within the association.

He also appreciated his campaign team, past leaders of the association and fellow contestants, assuring them that their contributions would be harnessed to move the association forward.

Other officers elected for the 2026–2028 tenure include Ifeanyi Onubogu as Vice Chairman, Jude Isha Yekpowudu as Secretary, Theophilus Thomas Dabot as Assistant Secretary, Karen Nenkimun Bakwa as Treasurer, Stephen Joseph Umbugala as Financial Secretary, and Solomon Abimiku as Public Relations Officer.

The immediate past Chairman, Isa Ohyoma, and immediate past Secretary, Bismarck Chimezie Iwueke, will serve as ex officio members of the new executive committee.
