NCoS probes alleged occupation of property by ex-convicts in Cross River

Daily Post about 2 hours 1 mins read

The Controller of Nigeria Correctional Services, NCS, in Cross River State, Aniekan Nyah, has said that he was still awaiting findings of a five-man committee investigating the alleged occupation of agency’s property by ex-convicts and other hoodlums.

The clan head of Efut Akani Esuk in Calabar South LGA, Muri Eyo Effiong Okon, V,  had alleged that ex-convicts who could not trace their origins after discharge were occupying some properties of the correctional service located in his domain and perpetrating more crimes.

He alleged further that the agency had built shops and living apartments and allocated them to the ex-convicts at stipulated amounts.

The monarch had called for the relocation of the correctional facility from his domain, saying it was not of benefit to them.

However, Nyah, who spoke through the PRO of the agency in Cross River, Mr Effanga Etim, said upon receipt of the allegations, an investigation committee was raised.

“The controller has proactively constituted a five-man committee to investigate the allegations,” Etim said.

He, however, denied allegations that the agency was harbouring ex-convicts in its facilities in the state.
