Nine Dead In Ogun Road Crash

Channels TV about 2 hours 2 mins read

Nine passengers have died in a road crash along the Ijebuode/Ore Expressway in Ogun State, the state Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said.

The spokesperson of the command, Afolabi Odunsin, said this in a statement, explaining that a preliminary investigation identified speed violation as the probable cause of the crash.

“The crash involved two vehicles, namely a white Toyota Hiace commercial bus, registration number 14B-299DT, belonging to Delta Line, and a white Sino Truck commercial vehicle, with the registration number AAB162XD, belonging to Bill Gas Solution Ltd,” the statement read in part.

“A total of nine persons, comprising three males and six females, were involved in the crash. Sadly, all nine persons were killed in the incident,” he said.

He confirmed that the remains of the victims were evacuated and deposited at the General Hospital Morgue, Ijebu-Ode, while the vehicles involved were towed to the Ilese Police Station by the Ilese Police Motor Traffic Division.

“The Sector Command Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi urges motorists, particularly commercial vehicle operators, to exercise maximum caution during rainfall, obey speed limits, maintain safe following distances and avoid any driving behaviour that could endanger lives,” Odunsin said.

“He also reminded motorists that speeding becomes even more dangerous on wet roads, as reduced tyre grip and visibility can make it difficult to control a vehicle or stop safely.”

“The Federal Road Safety Corps extends its condolences to the families of the victims and calls on all road users to make safety their priority at all times,” he added.
