Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has described the rescue of abducted schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State as evidence of President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to tackling insecurity and protecting the lives of Nigerians.

In a statement issued on Saturday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, Sanwo-Olu commended President Tinubu and security agencies for the successful operation, which secured the victims’ release after more than 55 days in captivity following their abduction on May 15, 2026.

The governor specifically praised the collaborative efforts of the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies involved in the rescue mission.

According to Sanwo-Olu, the operation demonstrates the Federal Government’s resolve to combat insecurity.

“The rescue is a huge relief and further demonstrates the commitment of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to the fight against insecurity. I commend the tireless efforts and resilience of our gallant security personnel who made this possible. I also rejoice with the people of Oyo State, particularly the residents of Ogbomoso, over this encouraging development,” he said.

Sanwo-Olu also expressed solidarity with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and the people of the state, noting that the successful operation had restored hope to the affected families and residents across the South-West.

He described the safe return of the pupils and teachers as a welcome development for the region and the country.

The abducted pupils and teachers were rescued after spending more than 55 days in captivity during what security agencies described as a coordinated rescue operation.
