Oyo 2027: Ex-Deputy Governor, Gbolarumi, two others to contest for PDP guber ticket

Daily Post about 1 hour 2 mins read

A former Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Hazeem Gbolarumi and Mogaji Oluwakayode Ogunsola, as well as Amofin Beulah Adeoye, are the three aspirants jostling to secure the gubernatorial ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, ahead of the 2027 general elections in the state.

DAILY POST gathered that the three aspirants expressed interest in the position and have been screened by the leadership of the party.

PDP Chairman in Oyo State, Professor Abdulrahman Akinoso, revealed this in a statement on Saturday.

Akinoso informed that the gubernatorial primary election of the party has been fixed Sunday, May 24.

He added that the party will adopt direct primary to pick the candidate of the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He also disclosed that collation of results will take place at the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Secretariat, Iyaganku, Ibadan.

Akinoso urged members of the party to remain calm and be peaceful during the exercise.

He also enjoined them to work with candidates of the party to form the next government in the state.

He said, “The Peoples Democratic Party is set to conduct a gubernatorial primary across the nation Sunday, 24 May 2026. In Oyo State, three aspirants, Barr Hazeem Gbolarumi, Mogaji Oluwakayode Ogunsola, and Amofin Beulah Adeoye, have shown interest in using the platform of PDP for the Oyo gubernatorial race for the 2027 general election.

“The conduct of the primary will be in line with the amended electoral act. A direct primary will be adopted to decide the party flag bearer. This involves the participation of registered members at all wards. The NUJ house at Iyaganku, Ibadan, will serve as the state collation centre.

“I want to use the medium to appeal to our members to remain peaceful and maintain orderliness during the exercise”.
