Broadcaster, Peter Igho is set to be conferred with the traditional title of Kakakin Daular Usmaniyya by His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar. The formal turbaning ceremony has been scheduled for this month of July at the Sultan’s Palace, Sokoto. Igho disclosed this via a letter from the Sultanate Council, Sokoto.

He describes the honour as humbling beyond words. He noted that the offer goes beyond tribal or religious sentiments. “It is about what Nigeria can be when service transcends tribe and religion,” Igho stressed. He said it is a “celebration of unity in diversity – the Nigeria we all believe in.”

According to the letter, the Secretary, Sultanate Council Sokoto Sa’idu Muhammadu Maccido, confirmed the title bestowed upon the 78yr-old film and television veteran. Maccido said “His Eminence the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar has approved to confer the traditional title of KAKAKIN DAULAR USMANIYYA upon you.”

It further stated that the conferment “is in recognition and appreciation of Igho’s invaluable contributions to the development of the Sultanate Council, Sokoto, Nigeria and humanity in general, wishing him the best of luck and Allah’s guidance in his future endeavours.”

A renowned playwright, television producer, Igho trained the North West State Cultural troupe. He rose to Executive Director Programs in NTA and was Director General of the National Lottery Regulatory Commission.
