The Plateau State Police Command has launched an investigation into a shooting incident along the Bukuru Expressway in Jos South Local Government Area of the state, which left seven people injured.

The incident occurred at about 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 4, 2026, when gunmen reportedly opened fire on a vehicle conveying traders returning from Kara Market in Bukuru, Jos.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Alfred Alabo, in a statement on Monday, said preliminary investigations had established that the vehicle was targeted during the attack.

According to him, seven injured victims have so far been traced to the Military Clinic at Rukuba Barracks, Jos, where they are receiving medical attention.

“The Plateau State Police Command has received with deep concern the report of a shooting incident that occurred on 4th October, 2026 at about 04:30 pm along Bukuru Express Way, Jos South LGA,” the statement said.

The Commissioner of Police, Plateau State Command, CP Ayodeji Faniyan, has consequently directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Department of Investigations to take full charge of the investigation.

The Police Commissioner also ordered that the perpetrators be identified, arrested and made to face the full wrath of the law.

Condemning the incident as “dastardly”, the Command wished the injured victims a quick recovery, while assuring residents that efforts were ongoing to restore security in the area.

The Police said tactical and anti-robbery teams had been mobilised to beef up security around the general area, while intelligence gathering had also been intensified to identify and apprehend those behind the attack.

The Command urged residents of Plateau State to remain calm and continue with their lawful activities, while calling on them to promptly report suspicious movements and activities to the Police.

The Police said further developments on the investigation would be communicated to the public as they emerge.
