The Benue State Police Command has condemned the killing of the Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Benue State chapter, Ardo Risku Muhammad, and one Yakubu Isa, describing the attack as a senseless criminal act capable of undermining ongoing peace and security efforts in the state.

Ardo Mohammad and Yakubu Isa were reportedly attacked and killed by unknown assailants on Friday while returning from a security meeting along the Okudu-Ogoli Road in Otukpo Local Government Area, LGA, of the state.

In a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Udeme Edet, the Commissioner of Police, Benue State Command, CP Cletus Nwadiogbu, expressed deep concern over the incident and extended his condolences to the bereaved families.

“The Command sees this unfortunate incident as a senseless and criminal act that is capable of undermining the peace and security efforts currently being sustained across the state,” the CP said.

He assured residents that the Command had already commenced a full-scale investigation into the killings, adding that tactical and intelligence assets had been deployed to track down those responsible.

“The Command has commenced a full-scale investigation into the incident, while tactical and intelligent assets have been deployed to identify, apprehend, and bring the perpetrators to justice. The Command will not leave any stone unturned to ensure that the culprits are arrested and prosecuted,” Nwadiogbu stated.

The police commissioner appealed to members of the public to remain calm and law-abiding, urging them not to take the law into their own hands or spread unverified information capable of escalating tensions.

He also called on anyone with credible information that could assist the investigation to report promptly to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency lines.

“The Benue State Police Command remains committed to protecting lives and property and will continue to work closely with all stakeholders to ensure that those responsible for this heinous act are brought to book,” the CP assured.
