The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the killing of social media influencer and political commentator, Ibrahim Khalil, popularly known as Danshagamu.
The Command also said it had arrested two suspects in connection with the fatal stabbing of the influencer in Gaida Quarters, Kumbotso Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.
Dan Shagamu was a popular social media influencer, video creator and political commentator in Kano. He was known for his outspoken views on political, religious and community issues and had a large following on Facebook and TikTok. He previously worked as a reporter for a local radio station before becoming a full-time commentator.
According to the force, the incident occurred on Monday, September 8, at about 11:30 p.m., when suspected hoodlums allegedly forced their way into the deceased’s residence and attacked him with sharp objects.
The Command said it received a distress report from the Commander of the Gaida Vigilante Group and immediately deployed operatives of the Kumbotso Police Division to the scene.
Danshagamu was subsequently rushed to the Murtala Mohammed Specialists Hospital, Kano, where a medical doctor confirmed him dead on arrival.
The Police said the arrests followed an intelligence-driven operation conducted by the Kumbotso Police Division in collaboration with tactical units and community stakeholders.
The two suspects are currently in police custody and undergoing interrogation, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other persons allegedly linked to the killing.
The Command said statements were being obtained from relevant persons, while forensic procedures were underway to establish the circumstances and motive behind the attack.
The Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, expressed concern over the incident and assured residents that the perpetrators would be brought to justice.
“The Kano State Police Command will not relent in its mandate to protect lives and property. We assure the good people of Kano that justice will be pursued to its logical conclusion,” the Commissioner said.
Meanwhile, Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has directed security agencies to intensify efforts to identify and prosecute all those responsible for the killing.
In a statement by his spokesman, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Governor Yusuf described the incident as shocking and unacceptable.
He urged residents to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands, while assuring them of the government’s continued efforts to protect lives and property.
The Police Command said additional patrols and intelligence-gathering operations had been deployed in Gaida and surrounding areas to maintain law and order.
Investigation into the killing is ongoing, with the Police stating that the suspects will be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.
