The Edo State Police Command says it has recorded another major operational success with the rescue of a kidnapped victim and the neutralisation of three suspected kidnappers during a joint security operation in Igarra, Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State.

According to a Statement issued by the command through its Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem, at about 0200 hours on 11th October 2026, acting on credible intelligence and technical support, a joint team comprising police operatives from Igarra Division, the Nigerian Army 195 Battalion, Department of State Services (DSS), local hunters and members of the Edo State Security Corps (ESSC) stormed the Geo Works bushes/forest bordering Otuo, where a kidnap victim, one Michael Akano, had been held following his abduction on 9th October 2026.

It added that during the operation, three suspected members of the kidnapping gang were neutralised in a ‘gun duel’ while others escaped with gunshot wounds.

The victim was successfully rescued unhurt and taken to the hospital for medical attention.

Exhibits reportedly recovered from the scene include three locally fabricated single-barrel shotguns, eight live cartridges, five expended cartridges, two cutlasses and five mobile handsets of different brands. The bodies of the neutralised suspects have been deposited at the General Hospital mortuary, Igarra, for autopsy.

A bush-combing operation is said to be currently ongoing to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects.

It urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies, assuring the public that every actionable intelligence will be treated with the urgency it deserves.

The Command said it remained resolute in the fight against kidnapping and other violent crimes.
