KAMPALA, UGANDA —His Excellency President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has granted an official burial to His Majesty the Omukama of Tooro, King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, who died at the age of 34.
The announcement was made today by the Minister for the Presidency, Hon. Babirye Milly Babalanda.
“Dear friends, I wish to inform the public that the President of the Republic of Uganda, H.E. Gen. (Rtd.) Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has granted an official burial to His Majesty the Omukama of Tooro, King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV,” Hon. Babalanda said in an official statement.
According to the Minister, the National Organising Committee (N.O.C) is now working hand in hand with the Tooro Kingdom and Ministers from Tooro to organize a befitting send-off.The late King, who became the world’s youngest reigning monarch when he took the crown in 1995 at just three years old, died at around 10:00 p.m. local time on Thursday, August 27th, according to the announcement by Tooro Kingdom Prime Minister Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki.
Minister Babalanda said government will communicate further details regarding the burial arrangements in due course.”Our deepest condolences go to the Royal Family, the people of Tooro, and all Ugandans during this time of mourning. May His Majesty rest in eternal peace,” she added.
The Tooro Kingdom had earlier described the King’s passing as “an immeasurable loss to the Royal Family, the people of Tooro and the nation of Uganda” and assured that “continuity of the Crown is assured” with an heir left behind.
An official programme for the state funeral is expected to be released jointly by the NOC and the Kingdom.
