Quomodo Systems Africa has stressed the need for stronger investment in secure digital infrastructure to sustain efforts in bridging digital divide in the country.

Chief Financial Officer and Head of Operations of the company, Mrs. Olufunke Tonye-Preghafi, maintained that expanding internet access alone without committing to adequate security will jeopardise drive for a resilient digital economy.

Tonye-Preghafi while speaking at the Nigeria Information Technology Reporters Association (NITRA) Innovative and Scientific Conference in Lagos, recently, asserted that digital inclusion drive requires robust cybersecurity systems and resilient technology infrastructure.

The conference brought together policymakers, industry stakeholders and tech journalists to explore strategies for expanding digital access in the country under the theme:  “Bridging Nigeria’s Digital Divide with Scientific Innovation”.

Tonye-Preghafi noted that oftentimes, discussions on digital divide focus on connectivity, with insufficient attention to the systems that keep digital services running.

“When we talk about digital divide, the conversation often centres on connectivity. But behind every digital service is a secure network, resilient infrastructure, integrated enterprise systems and advanced cyber protection. That is where Quomodo Systems comes in,” she said.

She stated further that safety and reliability of digital financial services, communication platforms and other solutions depend largely on continuous monitoring and protection against cyber threats.

She said Quomodo Systems operates in this space, providing cybersecurity, cloud infrastructure and enterprise solutions to financial institutions, telecommunications firms and others within Africa.

She disclosed that the country’s drive for digital transformation will require regulators to embrace responsible technology adoption.

“As Nigeria accelerates its digital economy, our greatest challenge is not the speed of adopting technology, but making sure that we adopt it securely, responsibly and sustainably. The organisations that will lead tomorrow are not those that adopt technology; but those that innovate securely, govern wisely and build resilience by design,” she said.
