Troops destroy suspected terrorist settlement in Kogi

Daily Post April 9, 2026 2 mins read

Troops have raided and destroyed a suspected terrorist settlement in Kogi State as part of ongoing efforts to prevent criminal groups from regaining a foothold in the area.

The development was disclosed in a post shared on X on Thursday by security analyst, Zagazola Makama.

According to the post, the operation was carried out on 7 April at about 10 am by combined troops under Operation Mesa, including personnel from the 12 Brigade, Adankolo Block Force, and units from Oshokoshoko and Apata.

Security sources said the troops acted on intelligence reports suggesting that suspected terrorists were attempting to regroup and re-establish a hideout that had earlier been destroyed.

Upon arriving at the location, the troops conducted a fighting patrol, which forced the suspects to flee the area.

A source quoted by Makama said the troops later discovered signs of recent human activity at the site, indicating that the settlement had been reactivated.

“During exploitation, troops discovered a reactivated settlement showing recent human activities, but no further contact was made,” the source told Makama.

The troops went on to destroy the enclave to prevent it from being used again by the suspects.

Security operations are still ongoing in the area, with forces maintaining pressure to prevent the return of criminal elements.
