Ukraine hits missile electronic plant in Russia

Daily Post about 2 hours 2 mins read

Ukraine’s military said on Monday that it had struck a plant producing electronics for missiles in Russia’s Voronezh region, as well as the Dubna satellite communications centre in the Moscow region.

In a statement posted on Telegram, the Ukrainian General Staff said air-launched cruise missiles were used in the attack on the Voronezh facility, which it described as a critical component of Russia’s defence production chain.

Voronezh Governor Alexander Gusev confirmed that a production plant in the region was damaged during the attack and said three people were injured. However, he did not specify the type of facility that was hit.

Gusev said Russian air defence systems intercepted several high-speed aerial targets over the region and warned residents of the risk of further missile attacks.

The Ukrainian military also reported striking the Dubna satellite communications centre in the Moscow region, adding that heavy smoke was observed at the site. It said an assessment of the damage was ongoing.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said 84 drones heading towards the Russian capital were intercepted over the past 24 hours. He said emergency services were deployed to locations where the drones were downed.

Russia’s aviation watchdog temporarily suspended operations at Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo, Vnukovo and Zhukovsky airports following the attacks.

Russia’s Ministry of Defence said its air defence systems destroyed 301 drones overnight, including some over Russian-occupied territories in Ukraine.

The attacks come days after a drone strike targeted Moscow’s only oil refinery, one of the largest aerial assaults on the Russian capital since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
