UNL: Portugal could ban Ronaldo from representing national team for six months

Daily Post about 1 hour 1 mins read

Portugal forward, Cristiano Ronaldo could be suspended from playing for the national team if he is found to have “abandoned” the team.

According to the Daily Mail, the ban could last between one and six months.

The Portuguese Football Federation’s disciplinary code states: “Any player who, having been regularly called up, unjustifiably abandons or fails to appear for training, a match, or any activity of the national teams or related to the sporting representation of the FPF or Portugal, will be sanctioned with a suspension of one to six months.”

Ronaldo walked out of the team’s camp on Wednesday after falling out with head coach Jorge Jesus over playing time.

The 41-year-old has been replaced by Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes as captain of the team.

Galatasaray winger Rafael Leao also took his No. 7 shirt as Portugal faced Denmark in the UEFA Nations League.
