World Cup 2026: ‘Argentina won real trophy’ – Coach, Lionel Scaloni

Daily Post about 3 hours 2 mins read

Lionel Scaloni has sent a message to Argentina supporters, players, the football association and his coaching staff regarding their 2026 World Cup final defeat to Spain.

He asserted that the players demonstrated their unwavering spirit and gave their all in every match.

In a post on Instagram, Scaloni said that he required a week to contemplate the final loss to Spain. He apologised to the fans for not securing victory in the summer tournament, while praising the players for their dedication.

He wrote, “After a week filled with a mix of sadness and joy, tears and smiles, anxiety and tranquility, as well as nerves and calmness, I can finally take a moment to write a few words. Although I am not particularly fond of social media, I believe this is the most effective way to connect with you.

“Firstly, I want to express my regret for not being able to bring you another trophy and provide you with another reason to celebrate, even if it was just for a few days, to help you forget the challenging moments in life.

“However, I want you to remember what this group of players, whom I affectionately refer to as my warriors when speaking to my wife, endeavored to demonstrate to you.”

Scaloni emphasized that the Argentina team, under Lionel Messi’s leadership, never displayed any inclination to accept defeat and persevered until the very end. He believes they remained united regardless of the circumstances and stated:

“Their dedication, their determination to persist, their belief, their ‘I can do it’ mindset, their refusal to give up even when everything seems insurmountable, their willingness to give everything they have even when they feel depleted, enduring criticism from those who do not know us, remaining united, and continuing to fight even when their bodies no longer respond to their minds’ commands.

“That is the real trophy. I will always be thankful to my coaching staff, my players, the AFA staff, and everyone who works diligently behind the scenes to ensure we have everything we need, as well as to each of you for the love and support you have shown us.”

Argentina faced defeat in the final against Spain, with Ferran Torres netting the only goal during extra time.
