World Cup 2026 Final: Laporta reveals only reason Spain won’t beat Argentina

Daily Post about 2 hours 2 mins read

Barcelona’s President, Joan Laporta, has expressed hope that the sole factor that could prevent Spain from defeating Argentina in the final of the 2026 World Cup is the referee’s inability to manage the match effectively.

He mentioned that if the referee stands firm against intimidation, Spain would have a significant opportunity to triumph over Argentina.

Laporta further asserted that La Roja possesses a superior chance of clinching victory, which would secure them the coveted trophy.

He also stated that La Roja boasts a stronger squad compared to their Argentine rivals.

In his remarks to EL Partidazo, he said, “We have the better team. If the referee is assertive, Spain will have increased chances of winning.”

Lionel Messi and his Argentine teammates have faced allegations of benefiting from several favorable refereeing decisions throughout the tournament.

Nevertheless, they have demonstrated remarkable resilience, overcoming numerous challenges to achieve unexpected victories in the knockout stages.

The Spanish team has also displayed exceptional skill by eliminating formidable teams such as Austria, Portugal, Belgium, and France to reach the final. Consequently, Laporta is confident that the Spaniards possess the capability to defeat Argentina and secure their second title since 2010.

The final match between La Roja and Argentina is scheduled to take place at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford on Sunday, July 19. It remains uncertain whether Lamine Yamal and his teammates will prevent the Argentines from winning the World Cup for a consecutive time.
