Former Liverpool player, Steve McManaman, has predicted the World Cup final between Spain and Argentina.
The two teams are set to clash in New York on Sunday, marking their first encounter in the tournament since 1966.
While serving as a pundit on ESPN FC, McManaman stated that he anticipates a comfortable victory for Spain.
He predicted a 3-1 win for the reigning European champions, opting not to elaborate on the specifics of the match.
“I’m going 3-1 to Spain. I’ll be nice and concise,” he said.
The European champions secured their place in the final following an impressive 2-0 victory over the favorites, France, in their semi-final clash in Dallas on Tuesday. They dominated the 2018 champions, putting them on the brink of their first title since 2010 and their second overall.
Conversely, Argentina achieved their seventh win of the tournament in the semi-final, showcasing their typical resilience. They came from behind to score twice in the final five minutes plus stoppage time, clinching a 2-1 victory over Euro 2024 finalists England.
The only previous encounter between the two nations occurred in England in 1966, where La Albiceleste triumphed 2-1 in the Group 2 match, advancing to the quarter-finals, where they were narrowly defeated by eventual champions England.
McManaman is confident that Luis de la Fuente’s team will seek to avenge that loss in this final. The teams were scheduled to meet in the Finalissima in March, but the match was canceled for various reasons.
