World Cup 2026: Messi makes history after Argentina beat Switzerland

Daily Post about 1 hour 1 mins read

Argentina captain, Lionel Messi, made history after his team defeated Switzerland 3-1 in the World Cup quarter-final encounter earlier today.

Messi added another milestone to his legendary career against Switzerland by becoming the all-time leading assist provider in FIFA World Cup history.

The 39-year-old is the first player ever to deliver 10 World Cup career assists as Argentina qualified for the semi-final.

Messi set up Alexis Mac Allister’s opener in the first half, before Switzerland levelled in the second half through Dan Ndoye.

The match ended 1-1 after 90 minutes as Switzerland forward Breel Embolo received a red card.

However, two extra-time goals from Julian Alvarez and Lautaro Martinez ensured Argentina defeated Switzerland to qualify for the last-4.
