Vice presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has disclosed that he and the party’s presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, signed a written agreement on power rotation ahead of the 2027 general election.
Kwankwaso made the revelation on Monday while speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, expressing confidence that Obi would honour the agreement.
According to him, the agreement provides that Obi would serve a single four-year term from 2027 to 2031, after which power would return to the North.
Explaining the contents of the agreement, Kwankwaso said it stipulates that after one term in office, Obi would work with party leaders and stakeholders to ensure a smooth transition of power back to the North.
Kwankwaso said: “Oh yes, I personally believe him (Peter Obi), and I don’t think, based on what I now know about him, he will change.
“I don’t think he will change his mind when the time comes. And we are all gentlemen, even though we have accepted to put it even on paper.
“We have signed one for the party, and we have done another one between the two of us.
“Well, the agreement is what you said that after four years, he will come and work together, team together as a group, as a party, as friends, brothers, and so on, and involve everybody to work together so that the after his term or our term of four years, 2027 to 2031, then it comes back to the north. And that is the general agreement.”
