Comparing Tinubu-Shettima To Obi-Kwankwaso, Atiku-Amaechi Is Like ‘Day And Night’ — Gov Sule

 

Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has dismissed comparisons between President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima and opposition candidates ahead of the 2027 presidential election, insisting that the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket stands clearly above its rivals.

Governor Sule made the remarks on Tuesday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he defended the Tinubu administration’s record and argued that its performance would be the deciding factor in the next presidential election.

Responding to a question on why Nigerians should support the Tinubu-Shettima ticket over opposition pairings such as Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso or Atiku Abubakar and Rotimi Amaechi, Sule said there was no basis for comparison.

“It’s like day and night; you cannot even compare,” he said.

“If you look at the record of this President, if you look at the courage, the performance, and the foresight of this President, if you look at what has happened in the last three years, you cannot compare it with the records of the other people,” Sule added.

The governor acknowledged that insecurity remains a major concern but argued that the challenge did not begin under the current administration.

“I know what you’re going to throw out—insecurity—as if insecurity started in the last three years,” he said.

 

 

Sule maintained that despite the security challenges, the Tinubu administration had delivered significant infrastructure projects and reforms across key sectors.

“Look at all the infrastructure that is happening in this country. A lot of people will tell you it is like a dream; they never thought it would happen,” he said.

He also pointed to developments in education and the economy as evidence of what he described as the administration’s achievements.

“Look at what NELFUND is doing today. Look at the capital market and how it has grown. That is why I said you cannot even compare.”

The governor further argued that President Tinubu’s bid for a second term would be driven by his administration’s performance rather than electoral manipulation.

Sule also expressed confidence in the political strength of the APC, noting that the party now controls 31 state governors.

 

 

On the controversy surrounding the Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket, the Nasarawa governor defended the arrangement, saying it had not resulted in the marginalisation of any religious group in government.

He noted that Nigeria had witnessed a similar political arrangement during the late Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO) Abiola’s presidential campaign, arguing that competence, rather than religious affiliation, should remain the focus of leadership.

Sule’s remarks come amid growing political activity ahead of the 2027 general election.

In the 2023 presidential election, President Tinubu and Shettima of the APC defeated the opposition, with Atiku contesting on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Obi representing the Labour Party (LP), and Kwankwaso flying the flag of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

Obi and Atiku each secured more than six million votes, while Kwankwaso polled over one million votes. Tinubu won the election with more than eight million votes.

Ahead of the 2027 election, the opposition has undergone a major realignment.

Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso are running as the presidential and vice-presidential candidates of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), while former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi are leading another opposition alliance under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
