Abia govt to demolish uncompleted buildings used for kidnapping

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti has warned that any uncompleted house discovered to be harboring kidnappers or other criminals will be demolished.

Governor Otti made the vow on Thursday while responding to questions from J=journalists during his monthly media chat.

He said that regular surveillance was being beamed on uncompleted buildings and forests, to ensure that hoodlums don’t turn them to their dens.

He said that no part of the State, including the forests, would be allowed to serve as operating base of kidnappers or other criminals.

Governor Otti, who said that his administration abhors activities that threaten the safety of residents, said that any person who commits crime and flees from the State would be tracked and brought back to the Abia for prosecution.

“Our eyes are on the uncompleted buildings. Any one who allows his building to serve as a place where kidnapped victims are kept, we shall demolish such houses.

“We don’t like publicizing our security strategies, we believe in action”, Governor Otti said.

On the clamour for minimum wage increase by workers, Governor Otti said his administration would have considered adding money to civil servants’ pay package but lamented that competing needs from other sectors makes such consideration impossible at the moment.

Governor Otti further promised to investigate why the people of Amaiyi Okpo community in Arochukwu LGA were still suffering from dilapidated roads despite the contract awarded by his administration for the roads in the area.
