Bago Flags Off Construction Of NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp In Niger State

 

Niger Governor Umaru Bago has performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the Phase One Permanent National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Orientation Camp in the state, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to youth development and national service.

Speaking during the ceremony, Governor Bago described the project as a strategic investment in the future of young Nigerians. He disclosed that the first phase of the camp would be developed on eight hectares of land, while an additional 20 hectares had been set aside for agricultural activities to support the NYSC’s farming initiative.

The governor assured that adequate funding had been provided for the project and expressed confidence that, upon completion, the Niger State NYSC Orientation Camp would rank among the best in the country.

 

 

The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, described the project as a reflection of the shared commitment of both the Federal and Niger State governments to youth development, national unity, and sustainable progress.

He said the permanent orientation camp would significantly improve the welfare, safety, and morale of corps members while also serving as a centre for youth empowerment and community development.

Brigadier General Nafiu commended Governor Bago for his unwavering support of the NYSC, particularly for providing the resources required for the project. He noted that Niger State had become the fourth state in the country, after Lagos, Adamawa, and Gombe, to embark on the construction of a modern permanent orientation camp.

He also urged the contractor handling the project to ensure strict adherence to quality standards and complete the work within the agreed timeline.

Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Abdulmalik Sarkin-Daji, praised Governor Bago for initiating the project and pledged the Assembly’s full legislative support towards its successful completion.

The contractor, Stephen Adigun, said the proposed facility would have the capacity to accommodate about 5,000 corps members, with room for future expansion.

According to him, the camp will feature 41 hostel blocks, each comprising 20 rooms with six bed spaces per room. Other facilities include a 3,000-seat multipurpose hall, administrative offices, sports and recreational facilities, a perimeter fence, a clinic, and other supporting infrastructure.

He assured that the project would be executed with professionalism and completed within schedule without compromising quality.

In their separate remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Social Development, Nuhu Ngaski, and the Emir of Agaie, Yusuf Nuhu, who spoke on behalf of the Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, commended the governor for the initiative and pledged their continued support for programmes aimed at improving the welfare and development of the people.
