BENIN CITY — The Edo State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has distanced itself from the activities of its former chairman, Kennedy Odion, warning him against issuing statements or convening meetings in the name of the party.
The state chairman of the party, Tony Alile, in a statement on Sunday, said Odion’s tenure had expired on May 19, 2026, adding that he was among members expelled during the party’s National Convention held in Abuja earlier this year.
Alile cautioned Odion against using the party’s name and materials to communicate with members or the public, insisting that he was no longer recognised as an official of the party.
“According to the records available to the party, Mr. Odion was expelled following disciplinary proceedings concluded at the National Convention held in Abuja on 14 April 2026. In addition, the tenure of the State Executive Committee under which he served expired on 19 May 2026,” the statement read.
The party alleged that despite its position, Odion had continued to issue statements and organise meetings in the name of the ADC, describing such actions as unauthorised and misleading.
“The party also states that there have been previous incidents involving the use of party facilities and the circulation of party-related materials which it considers unauthorised. These matters are being handled through the appropriate channels,” Alile said.
He added that the ADC remained united and committed to strengthening democratic opposition and providing credible leadership in Edo State and Nigeria.
However, when contacted, Odion rejected the claims, describing the party’s position as an act of self-deception.
“They are dwelling in the highest form of self-deceit. They should calm down, retrace their steps and see how they can be incorporated back into the party,” he said.
Odion accused the party leadership of acting out of frustration, arguing that the documents being presented by them could amount to contempt of court.
“As far as the law is concerned, I remain the chairman of the party in the state, and anybody claiming to be the chairman is doing so illegally,” he added.
