BENIN CITY – The Edo State Government has warned individuals involved in cult-related activities against staging any celebrations or gatherings associated with July 7, while urging business owners to install Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras as part of efforts to strengthen security across the state.

The warning was issued on Monday by the spokesman for the Edo State Security Squad, codenamed Operation Flush Out Kidnappers and Cultism, Noah Idemudia, while parading two suspects arrested in separate operations in Uromi, Esan North-East Local Government Area, and Auchi, Etsako West Local Government Area.

The suspects, identified as Muhammed Oakumhe and Omukoro Aghogho, were arrested with two pump-action guns by a security team led by the Principal Security Officer to Governor Monday Okpebholo.

According to Idemudia, the arrests followed actionable intelligence, adding that security agencies would not tolerate any activities capable of threatening public peace.

He urged anyone planning unlawful gatherings or activities on July 7 to abandon such plans, warning that security operatives would take appropriate action against anyone found violating the law.

“We are warning those involved in criminal activities in Edo State to stay clear. If anyone has plans to engage in unlawful activities, it is better to cancel them. Anyone caught will face the consequences of the law,” he said.

Idemudia also reminded business owners that the July 31 deadline for installing CCTV cameras at their premises remained in force.

He said enforcement would begin after the deadline, noting that the initiative is aimed at improving surveillance and supporting law enforcement efforts in tackling crime.

“We advise business owners to comply with the directive. The Governor has directed that by August 1, all business premises should have CCTV cameras installed. This will go a long way in helping us combat crime and make Edo a safer place,” he said.

He added that the security committee would work with traditional institutions to profile community youth leaders in line with ongoing efforts to enhance grassroots security across the state.
