Group Says APC Reconciliation Committee Possesses Requisite Capacity, Political Exposures to Resolve Party’s Aggrieved Members in Kwara

This Day about 3 hours 4 mins read

Hammed Shittu in Ilorin

A press group within the Kwara State Chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC), the Kwara By Consensus (KBC), has said that the reconciliation committee set up by the leadership of the ruling party in the state to resolve the aggrieved members of the party possesses the requisite capacity and political exposures to resolve the aggrieved members of the party.

The group therefore called on the committee to take innovative and unconventional approaches towards resolving the crisis once and for all in order to ensure the electoral victory of the party come 2027 elections in the state.

A memorandum issued by the group in Ilorin yesterday and made available to journalists, the group urged the reconciliation committee to extend this inclusive approach to all aggrieved groups and to collaborate with individuals and organisations already working towards resolving the crisis.

The group is led by the former vice chancellor of University of Ilorin and APC leader, Professor Shuaib Oba Abdulraheem, the former Ambassador to Malaysia, Nurudeen Mohammed and the Founder of Thomas Adewumi University, Oko, Dr. Thomas Adewumi.

Other members of the group include, Mallam AbdulHamid Sambo, Taofiq Mustapha, Alhaji Reheem Adedoyin, Mallam Nurudeen Immam, Mallam Is’haq Modibbo Kawu, among others.

According to the group, “We have every confidence in your proven capacity to think outside the box, and commend the committee’s decision to engage aggrieved members both collectively and individually.

“And we urge you to extend this inclusive approach to all aggrieved groups and to collaborate with individuals and organisations already working towards resolving the crisis.

“We also support the committee’s advice that suspensions imposed in the name of party discipline should be put on hold and that all provocative public statements cease immediately, to create an atmosphere conducive to genuine dialogue”.

The group said that, “We also wish to place on record our unwavering confidence in the leadership of the committee and the collective expertise of its members.

“Your Chairman, Col. Ademola Lawal (rtd), brings a rare combination of military discipline, academic rigour, and deep political experience to this delicate assignment.

“His distinguished service to the nation that spanning decades of command responsibility, strategic planning, and conflict resolution, coupled with his doctoral training in governance and his intimate understanding of Kwara’s political terrain gives us every assurance that this committee possesses the requisite capacity to navigate the most complex disputes.

“We equally hold in high esteem the other members of the Committee, whose diverse backgrounds in law, administration, grassroots mobilisation, public service, and mediation further enrich the collective wisdom brought to bear on this assignment.”

The group added, “The KBC is proud to be associated with you and with every member of this committee.

“We stand behind you not as distant observers, but as partners in this historic endeavour, and pledge our full support — moral, intellectual, and logistical — to ensure that this assignment succeeds for the common good of our state.”

The KBC therefore appealed to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to intervene in the exorbitant cost of air travel between Ilorin and Abuja, which we described as “an act of sabotage against the growth and accessibility of Kwara State.”

“We noted with concern that Ilorin–Abuja airfares had become the most expensive in the country, discouraging visitors, investors, and even indigenes from travelling to the state.

“Our statement emphasised that at a time when Ilorin was undergoing a massive urban renewal programme and transforming into a modern megacity with improved infrastructure, aesthetics, and economic viability and many Nigerians were being priced out of the opportunity to experience these developments.

“We called on the Governor to engage airlines and regulatory bodies, promote healthy competition, explore subsidies or incentives, and leverage public awareness to address the crisis,” they noted.
