“I Can’t Respect, Marry A Man Who Earns Less Than Me” — Businesswoman Okoye Chidinma

InformationNG about 2 hours 2 mins read

Nigerian businesswoman Okoye Chidinma has sparked reactions after stating that she would never marry a man who earns less than she does, saying she would struggle to respect such a partner.

Speaking on the Adult Gist Podcast, Chidinma explained that after spending the last nine years taking care of her family, she is unwilling to enter a marriage where she would also have to financially support or build a man.

According to her, “I’ve been taking care of my family for nine years. I will now marry and start taking care of a man. Building a man. Please, I am saying this shamelessly. I cannot take care of a man.”

She stressed that her ideal husband must earn more than she does, adding, “The man should not earn lesser than me. The man should earn higher than me. And I don’t think I will respect a man that earns lesser than me. Yes, I said it.”

Chidinma clarified that she was only expressing her personal preference and not speaking on behalf of all women.

She also argued that financially supporting a partner does not always guarantee appreciation, saying, “You might end up helping the man, and the man will still be cheating. The man will still show you pepper.”

She concluded by noting that both men and women are capable of hurting their partners, saying everyone should carefully choose the kind of relationship they want.
