The Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency bye-election in Kano State has been largely peaceful, with security agencies and electoral officials closely monitoring the exercise across polling units.

Officials of the Nigeria Police Force, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and other security agencies were deployed across the constituency to ensure order and compliance with electoral guidelines.

The Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, alongside the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Abdu Zango, and members of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES), visited several polling units in Dawakin Kudu and Warawa Local Government Areas to assess the process.

Speaking during the monitoring exercise, Bakori said security operatives had been strategically deployed to guarantee a safe and orderly election.

“Our personnel have been strategically deployed across the constituency to ensure adequate security and maintain law and order throughout the electoral process,” he said.

He expressed satisfaction with the conduct of voters and urged continued peaceful participation.

“We are satisfied with the level of compliance observed so far and urge residents to continue conducting themselves peacefully as the process continues,” he added.

INEC REC Abdu Zango also commended the peaceful atmosphere, noting that the election had so far proceeded without disruption.

“The police and all other security agencies have honoured their commitment to provide safety and security. The area is calm and peaceful, and there has been no problem whatsoever,” he said.

Zango added that the voting process was progressing smoothly, with electoral materials functioning effectively.

“Our BVAS machines are working very well, polling units opened at 8:30 a.m., and there is a significant turnout of voters. We are very happy with the development,” he stated.

The bye-election is being conducted to fill a vacant seat in the House of Representatives following the death of the former lawmaker representing the constituency.
