The National Unity Party (NUP) is set to join forces with Unite party, according to information received by The Standard from a reliable source, in what could become a significant political development ahead of the 2026 presidential election.
Following the tip-off, The Standard contacted Unite spokesperson Kemo Bojang for confirmation. While Bojang stopped short of confirming the reported alliance, he acknowledged that the party is engaged in ongoing discussions with political stakeholders.
“We are in discussion with all political parties,” Bojang said, adding that the consultations were underway. He also disclosed that the Unite Party is participating in discussions led by the Coalition Task Force.
When specifically asked whether the Unite had reached an agreement to form an alliance with NUP, Bojang declined to comment.
“I cannot comment on that,” he said.
Speculation over the reported alliance intensified after NUP leader Lamin J Darbo revealed during an appearance on The Brunch with Lamin Cham on Kerr Fatou that his party is preparing to make a major political announcement.
Although Darbo did not disclose the subject of the announcement, The Standard understands from its source that it relates to the anticipated alliance between NUP and the Unite.
Neither party has officially confirmed that an agreement has been reached. However, comments from both sides indicate that political consultations remain active as parties continue to explore partnerships ahead of the next general election.
