President Museveni Commends SDA Church’s Development Role as Bishop Kajura is Installed to Lead Busoga Field

Watchdog Uganda about 10 hours 3 mins read

BUSOGA, Uganda — President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has commended the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church for its contribution to promoting unity, education, healthcare, discipline and socio-economic transformation, describing the church as a vital partner in Uganda’s development agenda.

The President’s message was delivered yesterday by the Minister for the Presidency, Hon. Babirye Milly Babalanda, during the installation of Pastor Jimmy Kajura as the new Bishop of the Seventh-day Adventist Church’s Busoga Field.

In his message, President Museveni said the installation marked more than a transition in leadership, describing it as a significant milestone in the spiritual and administrative journey of the Busoga Field.

“This installation marks more than a change of leadership. It signifies a new chapter in the spiritual and administrative journey of the Busoga Adventist Field. It is a reminder that God continues to call men and women into positions of leadership to serve His people with humility and dedication,” the President said.

He congratulated Bishop Kajura on his appointment and urged him to embrace servant leadership guided by faith, integrity and compassion.

President Museveni praised the SDA Church in Busoga for strengthening the work of God while advancing community development through education, healthcare and the promotion of values such as unity, patriotism and discipline.

He noted that Adventist institutions have become pillars of hope and transformation in many communities, saying the church’s commitment to service continues to complement government efforts in national development.

“A community that prays together can also work together to fight poverty. When people are united, they can overcome the challenges facing their communities because unity is strength,” the President said.

He encouraged church members to use the installation as a moment of spiritual renewal and recommit themselves to supporting the new bishop in advancing the mission of the church.

Quoting John 10:10 — “I have come that they may have life, and have it more abundantly” — President Museveni urged Christians to reject practices that hinder personal and community transformation and instead embrace values that promote growth and prosperity.

The President also called upon believers to actively participate in government wealth creation programmes, including the Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyooga, Operation Wealth Creation (OWC) and other parish-based agricultural initiatives.

“The NRM government has established various wealth creation programmes, and every Ugandan should actively participate in them. God has blessed Busoga with abundant resources, and I encourage you to utilise them to achieve self-reliance and sustainable development,” he said.

Addressing the newly installed bishop directly, President Museveni urged Bishop Kajura to lead with God’s word as his guiding principle and to mobilise support through partnerships and networks that will strengthen the church’s mission.

“I encourage you to lead with wisdom, humility and compassion. Mobilise resources through your friends, development partners and all people of goodwill so that the church continues to grow and your leadership leaves a lasting legacy,” he said.

The President reiterated his vision of a united and economically empowered Africa, calling upon religious leaders to play an active role in promoting peace, moral values and socio-economic transformation.

“We are saying, ‘No more sleep’ until the African race is united in values, secure and economically prosperous. I congratulate you once again and wish you a fruitful and peaceful tenure of service in the Busoga Field,” he concluded.

The installation ceremony was attended by Archbishop Samuel Kajoba, government officials, local leaders, senior Seventh-day Adventist Church leaders and hundreds of faithful from across the Busoga region.
